Travelling to Bengaluru Airport? You may need to leave home a little earlier from November 6, 2026. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is starting work on a four-lane elevated corridor on Ballari Road. This could slow down traffic, especially near Hebbal. People heading to Kempegowda International Airport should check the new routes before starting their journey.

Why Is Ballari Road Traffic Being Diverted?

The BDA is building a four-lane elevated corridor between UAS Staff Quarters and Mehkri Circle. The new corridor is part of a road improvement project intended to ease congestion around Hebbal. But construction will affect traffic for now.

Ballari Road is one of the main roads people use to reach Kempegowda International Airport. Many people also use it to travel between Hebbal and other parts of the city. Since Hebbal already sees heavy traffic, the roadwork may lead to longer travel times, mainly during busy morning and evening hours.

Which Vehicles Cannot Use Ballari Road?

Bengaluru Traffic Police have announced restrictions during the construction work. The restrictions cover all goods vehicles, including light, medium and heavy goods vehicles, as well as KSRTC buses and private buses on the affected part of Ballari Road.

Cars, two-wheelers and school buses can still use the road, but drivers may face delays. Emergency vehicles travelling towards the airport and Bengaluru City have also been advised to use the alternative routes. The restrictions apply to the affected stretch under the jurisdiction of the Sadashivanagar and Sanjaynagar traffic police stations.

Bengaluru Airport Traffic Diversions: Alternative Routes

If you travel through Hebbal or Yeshwanthpur, you may need to use an alternative route. Here are the routes suggested by the Bengaluru Traffic Police.

From Hebbal to Bengaluru Airport

Drivers travelling towards the airport via Hebbal can use the route through Old High Grounds Junction, Kalpana Junction, Old Udaya TV Junction, Cantonment Railway Station, Tannery Road and Nagawara Road. From there, they can continue towards the airport.

From Yeshwanthpur to Bengaluru Airport

If you are travelling from Yeshwanthpur, take Mathikere Road, turn right at BEL Circle and continue along the Ring Road towards the airport.

From Bengaluru Airport to the City

Drivers coming from the airport have two suggested routes.

Route 1: Turn left at Hebbal and proceed towards Nagawara Junction. Take a right turn there and continue through Bamboo Bazaar and Queens Road to reach central Bengaluru.

Route 2: Take Hebbal Ring Road towards Kuvempu Circle and Goraguntepalya Junction. From there, turn left onto Dr Rajkumar Road to reach the city.

Choose your route based on where you need to go and the traffic conditions at the time.

Other Traffic Diversions in Bengaluru

The traffic police have also suggested alternative routes for commuters travelling to other parts of Bengaluru.

Drivers going from Yeshwanthpur towards central Bengaluru can travel through BHEL Junction, turn right near Maramma Circle and continue on Margosa Road.

People travelling from Hebbal towards Bengaluru City can use the service road in front of Baptist Hospital after descending the Hebbal Flyover. They can continue to CBI Junction and then join Ballari Main Road.

If you are heading towards Anand Nagar or RT Nagar, take the service road towards Anand Nagar Cross. Turn left at CBI Junction to reach Anand Nagar Main Road. From there, you can continue towards RT Nagar and Jayamahal Road.

How Will the Roadwork Affect Bengaluru Airport Travellers?

The biggest concern for airport passengers is the extra travel time. Hebbal is already one of Bengaluru’s busiest traffic areas. With construction taking place on Ballari Road, vehicles may move more slowly than usual. Traffic could get worse during morning and evening peak hours.

People taking taxis or driving their own cars to the airport may need more time to reach the terminal. If you have a flight to catch, don’t depend on your usual travel time. Road conditions may change as construction moves forward.

Tips for Travelling to Bengaluru Airport

A little planning can help you avoid last-minute trouble.

  • Leave early, especially if you have a morning or evening flight.
  • Check Google Maps or live traffic updates before leaving.
  • Follow traffic police signs and use the suggested routes.
  • Ask your cab driver about possible delays near Hebbal.
  • Check official traffic police updates for any new route changes.

These small steps can make your airport journey less stressful.

The Ballari Road construction work may make travel to Bengaluru Airport slower over the next 18 months. If you use this road often, keep an eye on traffic updates and plan your journey before leaving.

Whether you are taking a domestic flight or travelling abroad, allow enough time to reach the airport. The Ballari Road construction may cause delays for people travelling to and from Bengaluru Airport. Check the latest traffic updates and leave early to reach the airport on time.
