Indian American agricultural scientist Dr. Karim Maredia has been selected for the 2026 Borlaug CAST Communication Award. The award recognizes his work in making agricultural research easier to understand and useful for farmers, policymakers, and communities worldwide. The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology will honour Dr. Maredia in Washington, D.C., on December 10, 2026.

Who Is Dr. Karim Maredia?

Dr. Karim Maredia is an Associate Dean, professor, and Director of the World Agriculture Center at Michigan State University. Dr. Maredia grew up in a small village in Gujarat, where his father worked as a dairy farmer. Seeing the daily challenges faced by farmers inspired him to build a career in agriculture.

Dr. Maredia earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture in India. He later moved to the USA for higher studies. He completed a Master’s degree in Integrated Pest Management from Alabama A&M University and a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding and Integrated Pest Management from the University of Arkansas.
