Aadi Pooram is an important Tamil devotional festival dedicated to Goddess Andal. She was the only woman among the 12 Alvars, the Vaishnava poet-saints of the Sri Vaishnava tradition.

The Aadi Pooram festival is observed during the Tamil month of Aadi and is linked to the Pooram (Purva Phalguni) nakshatra, Andal’s birth star. Andal is traditionally considered an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, specifically Bhudevi in many Vaishnava traditions. She is also known for her devotion to Lord Vishnu and her contribution to Tamil Bhakti literature.

Planning to observe Aadi Pooram 2026? Find the date, Pooram Nakshatra timings, significance, rituals, temple celebrations and simple ways to perform the puja at home.

Aadi Pooram 2026 Date and Timings

Aadi Pooram, also known as Aandal Jayanthi, Andal Jayanti and Thiruvaadi Pooram, will be observed on Friday, August 14. Tamil calendars list the observance on this day, with Drik Panchang showing Andal Jayanthi for locations such as Chennai, Vijayawada and Tirumala.

Calendar dates can vary by location and regional tradition. For Tamil Nadu and Tamil-calendar observance, this is the applicable date. Aadi Amavasai is a separate observance.

  • Nakshatra begins: August 14 at 4:38 AM
  • Nakshatra ends: August 15 at 3:42 AM
  • Sunrise: Around 6:06 AM
  • Sunset: Around 6:56 PM

These timings can vary by location. Devotees should check their local panchang or temple schedule for puja timings. The Tamil day panchang identifies the day as 29, Aadi, and lists Andal Jayanthi.

Who Is Goddess Andal?

Andal is also known as Kodhai and Nachiyar. According to tradition, Periyalvar found her as an infant in a garden at Srivilliputhur. He raised her in devotion to Lord Vishnu. Andal later expressed her love for Vishnu through devotional poetry. She became one of the most important female figures in Tamil Bhakti tradition.

Andal’s Famous Works

Tiruppavai: A collection of 30 devotional verses widely recited during Margazhi.

Nachiyar Tirumozhi: A collection expressing Andal’s devotion and longing for union with Lord Vishnu.

Andal Garland Story

A famous tradition says that Andal would wear the garlands prepared by Periyalvar for Lord Vishnu before they were offered to the deity. Periyalvar was initially upset when he discovered this. According to tradition, Lord Vishnu later revealed that He wanted the garland worn by Andal. This story is linked to the name Choodi Kodutha Nachiyar (Soodi Kodutha Nachiyar). The tradition remains important at Srivilliputhur.

What happens at Srivilliputhur Andal Temple on Aadi Pooram?

The Srivilliputhur Andal Temple in Virudhunagar district is one of the main pilgrimage centres associated with the festival. Srivilliputhur is traditionally regarded as Andal’s birthplace. The temple hosts major celebrations that attract thousands of devotees.

The programme can vary each year. It may include:

  • Special puja for Andal
  • Abhishekam or Thirumanjanam
  • Special alangaram
  • Garland offerings
  • Divya Prabandham recitation
  • Vedic chanting
  • Processions
  • Nadaswaram and Thavil performances
  • Special offerings and prasadam

Aadi Pooram Bangle Tradition

Bangles are associated with several Aadi festival traditions in Tamil Nadu. Some temples conduct Valaikappu-style celebrations and offer bangles to Goddess Andal or other female deities. Devotees may receive bangles as prasadam. This practice varies by temple. It is not a compulsory ritual everywhere.

Is Fasting Required?

No. Fasting is not compulsory. Some devotees fast or eat only simple vegetarian food. Others perform puja and visit temples without fasting. Practices vary between families and temples. Follow the rules of your temple if a specific vratam is prescribed.

How to Observe Aadi Pooram at Home

A simple home puja may include:

  1. Clean the puja area.
  2. Place an image or idol of Andal.
  3. Decorate it with flowers.
  4. Light a lamp and incense.
  5. Offer sandalwood and kumkum where appropriate.
  6. Offer a garland.
  7. Recite Tiruppavai or other prayers.
  8. Offer vegetarian naivedyam.
  9. Perform arati.
  10. Distribute prasadam.

There is no need for elaborate arrangements. Devotion and prayer are the main focus.

Aadi Pooram celebrates Andal’s devotion to Lord Vishnu and her contribution to Tamil Bhakti literature. It is especially important among Tamil and Sri Vaishnava communities. Starting August 10, 2026, Google Drive for desktop no longer supports backing up photos and videos from computer folders directly to Google Photos. Users who previously relied on this feature must now use Google Photos’ own “Back up folders” option or upload their files manually.

What exactly has changed?

Previously, Drive for desktop allowed users to select folders stored on a Windows PC or Mac and enable “Back up to Google Photos.” Photos and videos in those folders could then be automatically uploaded to Google Photos.

Google began phasing out the feature in 2026:

  • June 15, 2026: Users could no longer configure new Google Photos backup folders through Drive for desktop.
  • Existing folder configurations continued to work temporarily.
  • August 10, 2026: Drive for desktop officially ended support for Google Photos backup.

So, as of August 11, 2026, users should no longer depend on Drive for desktop to send new photos and videos to Google Photos.

Are existing Google Photos backups safe?

Yes. Photos and videos that were already backed up to Google Photos are not being deleted because of this change. They remain in the user’s Google Photos library. The change affects future backup activity through Drive for desktop, not previously uploaded content.

There is also an important distinction:

Turning off or ending a folder backup does not remove the photos already stored in Google Photos.

Google says existing backed-up photos remain in Google Photos unless the user separately deletes them.

What happens to photos still stored on a computer?

This is the important part. If a user has photos in a computer folder that have not yet been uploaded to Google Photos, Drive for desktop can no longer be relied upon to automatically back them up. Those users need to move the backup process to Google Photos.

How to continue backing up computer folders

Google now provides a Back up folders feature directly through Google Photos.

On a computer:

  1. Open Google Photos.
  2. Go to photos.google.com.
  3. Click Create / Add photos in the upper-right area.
  4. Select Back up folders.
  5. Choose the folders containing the photos and videos.
  6. Give Google Photos permission to access the folders.
  7. Allow the upload process to complete.

How Google Photos Folder Backup Works Now

The new Google Photos folder backup is browser/web-app based. Google says users should keep the Google Photos tab open or have the Google Photos Web App running for background backup. If the browser tab is closed, files in the selected folders will not continue backing up automatically. This is an important detail that should not be missed in an article because it means the replacement does not work exactly like the old Drive for desktop workflow.

Can users manually upload photos?

Yes. Users don’t have to configure folder backup. They can manually upload photos and videos through Google Photos. The current Google instructions are:

Google Photos → Create/Add photos → Import photos → select files → Open.

Users can also drag photos from their computer into an album in Google Photos.

Will Google Photos upload duplicate photos?

Google says that when a folder is added for backup, it attempts to upload the folder’s contents, but content that has already been uploaded generally won’t be uploaded again. However, Google notes that content that was previously uploaded but later edited or deleted while backed up may be uploaded again. That makes it useful to verify the backup rather than simply assuming everything transferred correctly.

How to check whether your photos are backed up

Google Photos provides several ways to verify the status.

Check the overall backup status

Open Google Photos on your computer and look at the backup status at the top of the library.

Possible statuses include:

  • Preparing backup
  • Backing up photos
  • Backup complete
  • Backup paused
  • No backup

Check an individual photo

You can also open a particular photo or video and select Info. Under Backed up, Google Photos displays the backup status and file size. This is particularly useful after moving from Drive for desktop to Google Photos.

Are smartphone users affected?

Not by this particular change. Google Photos’ normal mobile backup continues to operate. Photos and videos backed up through the Google Photos app on Android or iPhone are not affected by the retirement of the Drive for desktop route. Google’s current help documentation continues to provide separate backup controls for mobile devices and device folders.

What about Google Drive itself?

Google Drive for desktop is not shutting down. The change is specifically about the connection between Drive for desktop and Google Photos backup. Drive for desktop continues to provide its normal file-syncing and file-access functions. Google is separating those functions from photo backup and directing users toward Google Photos for photo management.

What about Google Drive files?

Another important distinction is that a photo stored in Google Drive is not automatically the same thing as a photo backed up to Google Photos. After August 10, Google says users who want to continue backing up folders should use Google Photos. Google also notes that users can add photos and videos from Google Drive to Google Photos where applicable.

Therefore, users should not assume:

“My photos are in Google Drive, so Google Photos is automatically backing them up.”

Those are separate services and storage locations.

Does the change affect Google storage?

Potentially, yes. Google Account storage is shared among services including Google Drive, Google Photos and Gmail. If the account reaches its storage limit, new photos and videos cannot be backed up until the user frees space or obtains additional storage.

Google Photos currently offers two main backup-quality options:

  • Original quality: Photos and videos retain their original resolution and count toward storage.
  • Storage saver: Files are compressed to use less storage.

For people moving a large computer library to Google Photos, checking available Google Account storage before starting a major upload is therefore important.

Google Photos file limits

Google’s current computer backup documentation says:

  • Photos can be up to 200 MB or 200 MP
  • Videos can be up to 10 GB
  • Files must be larger than 256 × 256
  • Google Photos supports common formats such as JPG, HEIC, HEIF, PNG, WEBP, GIF, AVIF and many RAW formats.

Google lists numerous supported video formats as well, including MP4, MOV, MKV, MTS, M2TS and others.

One limitation for Mac users

There is an important limitation with the new browser-based folder backup. Google says the Apple Photos Library is not supported when backing up folders through photos.google.com. For Apple Photos Library content, Google recommends using the Google Photos app on an iPhone or iPad instead.

How to Check Your Google Photos Backup

If you previously used Drive for desktop for Google Photos backups, the safest checklist is:

  1. Open Google Photos.
  2. Check whether recent computer photos are appearing.
  3. Check the backup status.
  4. Select Back up folders and add the computer folders you still need to protect.
  5. Keep the Google Photos tab open or run the Photos Web App while backup is taking place.
  6. Check individual photos to confirm they show as backed up.
  7. Check available Google Account storage.
  8. Keep a separate local or external backup of important photos.

The last point is particularly important for irreplaceable photographs. Cloud storage should ideally not be the only copy of important memories.

Google Photos and Google Drive are not going away. The change only affects how computer folders are backed up to Google Photos. If you use Drive for desktop, switch to Back up folders in Google Photos and keep the browser tab or Web App running to ensure new photos continue uploading.

Long-Haul Flight Tips
Source: ChatGPT

Long international journeys can feel tiring, especially when you spend more than eight hours on a flight. Limited legroom, dry cabin air, irregular meal times, and changing time zones can make the journey challenging. But a little preparation can make a big difference. From choosing the best seat for long flights to knowing how to sleep on a plane, these practical long-haul flight tips can help you stay more comfortable from takeoff to landing.

Choose the Best Seat for Long Flights

Your seat can have a major impact on your comfort during a long journey. A window seat may be a better choice for travelers who want to sleep because it provides a place to lean and reduces interruptions from other passengers. An aisle seat can be more convenient for those who like to stretch, walk around, or visit the restroom frequently.

Wear Comfortable Clothes

Wondering what to wear on a long flight? Comfort should be your main priority. Choose loose and breathable clothes that allow you to move easily. Track pants, comfortable trousers, soft T-shirts, and relaxed-fit clothing can work well for long journeys. Cabin temperatures can also change during a flight, so dressing in layers is helpful. Carry a light jacket, sweater, or shawl that you can easily put on or remove.

Pack the Right Carry-On Essentials for Flights

Your carry-on bag should include everything you may need during the flight, such as a neck pillow, eye mask, earplugs or headphones, phone charger, power bank, lip balm, moisturizer, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, prescription medicines, light snacks, and a jacket or shawl. Keep important items in a small bag under the seat whenever possible. This makes it easier to access them without repeatedly opening the overhead bin. Always check your airline’s baggage and battery rules before packing electronic accessories or power banks.

Sleep More Comfortably on a Plane

Start by creating a comfortable sleeping environment. Use an eye mask to block cabin lights and noise-canceling headphones or earplugs to reduce engine noise and nearby conversations. A supportive neck pillow can help keep your head in a comfortable position. Passengers seated by the window may also find it easier to rest because they can lean against the side of the cabin. Try to avoid too much caffeine before the time you plan to sleep. Reducing screen brightness and putting away electronic devices can also help your body relax. Instead of forcing yourself to sleep immediately after takeoff, consider the local time at your destination and try to adjust your rest schedule gradually.

Move Around During the Flight

Sitting in the same position for many hours can leave your legs feeling stiff and uncomfortable. When it is safe to do so and the seatbelt sign is off, take occasional walks through the cabin. You can also perform simple movements while seated, such as moving your ankles, stretching your calves, and raising and lowering your feet. Regular movement can help improve comfort and reduce stiffness during long journeys. Passengers with specific health conditions or concerns about long-distance travel should speak with a healthcare professional before flying.

Stay Hydrated Throughout the Journey

Staying hydrated is one of the most important long-haul flight tips for a more comfortable journey. Aircraft cabins can feel dry, so drinking water regularly is important. Keep water nearby and take small sips throughout the journey. Alcohol and excessive caffeine may affect hydration and sleep quality, so consider limiting them during a long flight. Using lip balm and moisturizer can also help reduce dryness caused by cabin conditions.

Plan Your Meals and Snacks

Airline meal schedules may not always match your normal eating habits. Many airlines allow passengers to request special meals before departure. Depending on the carrier, options may include vegetarian, vegan, Jain, or other dietary meals. Some travelers may also prefer carrying simple packaged snacks such as biscuits, roasted nuts, makhana, or khakhra. Always check the food and customs rules of your destination before carrying food items internationally. Avoid packing strong-smelling food because it can make other passengers uncomfortable in the enclosed cabin.

Prepare Entertainment Before Boarding

A 10- or 12-hour journey can feel much longer without something to do. Before heading to the airport, download movies, TV shows, podcasts, audiobooks, music playlists, or e-books. Make sure your devices are fully charged before departure. Carry charging cables and a permitted power bank in your hand baggage. Offline entertainment is especially useful when onboard Wi-Fi is unavailable or unstable.

Long-Haul Flight Checklist

Before leaving for the airport, make sure you have:

  • Passport and required travel documents
  • Airline check-in completed when available
  • Seat selected
  • Special meal requested if needed
  • Entertainment downloaded
  • Devices fully charged
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Neck pillow and eye mask
  • Medicines
  • Travel snacks
  • Chargers and permitted power bank

Following these long-haul flight tips can help you arrive feeling more prepared and less exhausted.

Long-distance travel may not always be easy, but smart preparation can improve the experience considerably. Following simple long flight comfort hacks can make hours in the air more manageable. Simple steps to rest and stay comfortable can help you feel better when you reach your destination.

India’s cities continue to capture global attention with their rich heritage, vibrant culture and unforgettable travel experiences. In the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2026, Udaipur, Jaipur and Mumbai earned places among the world’s top 25 cities, highlighting the country’s remarkable diversity. From the lakes and palaces of Udaipur to Jaipur’s royal architecture and Mumbai’s energetic urban spirit, these top-ranked cities offer travelers distinct and memorable ways to experience India.

Udaipur

Udaipur ranked 12th globally and eighth among Asian cities, making it the highest-ranked Indian destination in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards 2026. Often called the City of Lakes, the place combines natural scenery with centuries of royal history. The city is surrounded by the Aravalli Hills and has developed around several lakes that give many of its palaces, hotels and restaurants picturesque waterfront settings. Lake Pichola is at the center of the Udaipur experience. Udaipur also appeals to travelers looking for:

  • Heritage hotels and palace stays
  • Rooftop dining overlooking the lakes
  • Traditional miniature paintings and local handicrafts
  • Cultural performances at historic havelis
  • A calmer atmosphere than India’s larger metropolitan cities

Jaipur

Jaipur secured the 16th position worldwide and ranked 10th among Asian cities. Known as the Pink City, Rajasthan’s capital offers a combination of historic forts, royal palaces, traditional markets, museums, cuisine and living craft traditions. Amber Fort is among Jaipur’s most visited landmarks. Situated on a hill outside the main city, the complex contains courtyards, royal chambers, gardens, temples and the famous Sheesh Mahal. Its use of sandstone and marble reflects different aspects of Rajput architecture. Other major places to visit include:

  • City Palace
  • Jantar Mantar
  • Jal Mahal
  • Nahargarh Fort
  • Jaigarh Fort
  • Albert Hall Museum
  • Johari Bazaar
  • Bapu Bazaar

Mumbai

Mumbai placed 21st globally and 12th among Asian cities. Unlike Udaipur and Jaipur, which are closely associated with royal Rajasthan, Mumbai represents contemporary India through its commerce, cinema, food, art and fast-moving lifestyle. Its inclusion among the world’s best cities in 2026 reflects the city’s striking mix of historic architecture, modern development and cultural energy. Colonial-era structures in South Mumbai stand alongside business districts, luxury hotels, crowded markets and residential neighborhoods. Other popular Mumbai experiences include:

  • Exploring the museums and galleries of Kala Ghoda
  • Visiting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus
  • Walking through Colaba and South Mumbai
  • Experiencing Bollywood and the city’s film culture
  • Shopping at traditional markets and modern malls
  • Trying Mumbai’s street food and regional cuisine
  • Visiting the Elephanta Caves
  • Watching the sunset at Juhu Beach or Marine Drive

How to Choose Between Udaipur, Jaipur and Mumbai

Choosing the right city depends on the kind of trip a traveler wants.

  • Choose Udaipur for lakeside scenery, palace hotels, romantic settings, heritage architecture and a relaxed cultural holiday.
  • Choose Jaipur if you are interested in forts, royal history, traditional crafts, colorful markets, Rajasthani food and heritage accommodation.
  • Choose Mumbai for big-city experiences, street food, nightlife, cinema, galleries, coastal views, shopping and modern Indian culture.

Udaipur, Jaipur and Mumbai offer three distinct ways to experience India. Udaipur invites visitors to explore lakeside palaces and royal history. Jaipur combines grand forts with traditional markets, craftsmanship and regional cuisine. Mumbai offers coastal views, historic architecture, cinema, contemporary art and the energy of a global metropolis.

Their inclusion among the world’s best cities in 2026 highlights India’s ability to offer both deeply rooted heritage experiences and dynamic modern city breaks. Whether travelers prefer quiet lake views, centuries-old forts or the constant rhythm of a coastal megacity, the three ranked destinations provide very different but memorable journeys.

Travelers planning to explore these top-ranked destinations can check Indian Eagle deals on international flights to India and compare suitable itineraries for a memorable journey.

Telangana SIR 2026
Source: Vecteezy

The Election Commission of India is conducting a Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, of electoral rolls in Telangana. The exercise is important for every registered voter because it involves fresh household-level verification of voter information across the state. Existing voters should not assume that possessing a voter ID card alone is enough. They should complete the enumeration process and later confirm that their names and details appear correctly in the draft and final electoral rolls.

What Is SIR in Electoral Rolls?

The SIR is a detailed voter-list verification exercise conducted under the supervision of the Election Commission of India. During the process, election officials verify existing voter entries, identify people who have shifted or died, identify possible duplicate registrations for further verification, correct inaccurate details and help eligible citizens enrol as voters. Electoral rolls can become outdated because of migration, deaths, address changes, new voters turning 18 and errors in names, ages or polling-station information. SIR is intended to make the voter list more accurate, complete and up to date.

Importance of SIR for Telangana Voters

The main objective of the Telangana SIR is to ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll and that incorrect or outdated entries are addressed through the prescribed verification process. The exercise will help authorities:

  • Verify the identity and current status of registered voters
  • Add eligible citizens who are not yet registered
  • Correct errors in names, addresses and other voter details
  • Identify possible duplicate registrations for further verification
  • Identify entries belonging to deceased voters or people who have permanently shifted
  • Ensure voters are listed under the correct constituency and polling station
  • Reorganize polling stations where necessary

What Are the Important Dates for Telangana SIR 2026?

Preparatory work for Telangana’s Special Intensive Revision was conducted from June 15 to June 24, 2026. Booth Level Officers began door-to-door voter verification on June 25, and the process will continue until July 24. Voters should submit their completed enumeration forms during this period. The draft electoral roll will be published on July 31, after which claims and objections can be submitted until August 30. Election officials will examine and dispose of claims until September 28, and the final electoral roll will be published on October 1, 2026.

What Will Booth Level Officers Do?

Booth Level Officers, commonly known as BLOs, will visit households in their assigned polling areas. During these visits, a BLO may:

  • Distribute pre-filled enumeration forms
  • Help voters understand and complete the form
  • Verify information provided by the voter
  • Collect completed forms
  • Provide an acknowledgement copy
  • Identify eligible residents who are not yet registered
  • Record probable reasons when a form is not returned
  • Verify forms submitted through the online facility

BLOs are expected to carry blank Form 6 applications and declaration forms during household visits for eligible people who wish to register as new voters.

What Is the Telangana SIR Enumeration Form?

An enumeration form is provided to an existing elector so that their registration can be verified during the revision. The modified form contains several pre-filled details, including:

  • Voter’s name
  • EPIC or voter ID number
  • Registered address
  • Assembly and parliamentary constituency
  • Polling part number and serial number
  • Existing photograph
  • BLO’s name and contact information

The voter may also be asked to provide or confirm information such as:

  • Date of birth
  • Mobile number
  • Current photograph
  • Father’s, mother’s or spouse’s details
  • Previous SIR electoral roll information
  • Details of an eligible relative in the previous roll

How Can Voters Complete the SIR Process Offline?

Voters can follow these steps during the BLO’s household visit:

  • Receive the two pre-filled enumeration forms from the BLO.
  • Confirm that the name, address, EPIC number and constituency details are correct.
  • Fill in missing information carefully.
  • Add a current photograph where required.
  • Include previous SIR roll details if they are available.
  • Sign the declaration or provide a left-thumb impression.
  • Submit one completed copy to the BLO by July 24.
  • Ask the BLO to acknowledge the second copy.
  • Retain the acknowledgement until the final voter list is published.

Voters should not sign a blank form or submit it without checking the pre-filled information.

Can the Telangana SIR Form Be Submitted Online?

Yes. The Election Commission’s Citizen Service Portal provides an online facility for the 2026 Special Intensive Revision, including an option to fill the enumeration form and search for names in the previous SIR electoral roll. A voter submitting the form online may generally need to:

  • Visit the official Election Commission voter-services portal.
  • Log in or create an account.
  • Select the Special Intensive Revision service.
  • Choose Telangana.
  • Open the pre-filled enumeration form available through the SIR service.
  • Verify and complete the information.
  • Submit the form online.
  • Save the acknowledgement or reference number.

Online submission does not necessarily remove the need for field verification. The BLO may visit the registered address to verify the information submitted electronically.

Are Documents Required During the Enumeration Phase?

Under the Election Commission’s SIR instructions, voters are not required to submit documents during the initial enumeration phase. If a voter’s details cannot be linked to the previous electoral roll or do not match the available database, the Electoral Registration Officer may issue a notice after the draft roll is published. The voter must then provide the documents specified in the notice through an authorised channel.

What Happens If You Miss the Telangana SIR Last Date?

Voters who fail to submit their enumeration forms by July 24 should check the draft electoral roll after its publication on July 31. If their names are missing, eligible voters may apply for inclusion using Form 6 and the prescribed declaration during the claims and objections period, which continues until August 30, 2026. The application may be examined by the Electoral Registration Officer before the voter’s name is included in the final roll. The official SIR instructions state that names for which completed enumeration forms are not received may be excluded from the draft roll, although affected eligible voters can seek inclusion during the claims period.

Is Aadhaar Mandatory for Telangana SIR?

The Aadhaar-number field on the modified enumeration form is labelled optional. The Election Commission has also clarified that Aadhaar may be used as proof of identity and not as proof of citizenship. Voters should follow any specific instructions issued by their Electoral Registration Officer if they receive a notice after the draft roll is published.

What Should New Voters Do?

A person who is eligible but not currently registered can apply using Form 6. BLOs have been instructed to carry blank Form 6 applications during the house-to-house exercise. The Election Commission’s online voter portal also provides a new-voter registration facility for citizens who are already 18 or will become eligible on an applicable qualifying date. A person must be an Indian citizen, satisfy the applicable age requirement and be ordinarily resident at the address where registration is sought.

The Telangana SIR 2026 is an important opportunity for citizens to verify their voter registration and correct errors before the next electoral roll becomes final. Every existing voter should complete the enumeration form by July 24, retain the acknowledged copy and check the draft electoral roll on or after July 31. Any missing name or incorrect detail should be reported during the claims and objections period, which remains open until August 30.

The process does not end with submitting the form. Voters should confirm their inclusion once again when the final Telangana electoral roll is published on October 1, 2026.

If you are planning a trip from India to the USA, check out Indian Eagle deals to find competitive fares and enjoy an affordable journey.

The monsoon makes India look beautiful. Hills turn green, waterfalls come alive, and valleys look peaceful under mist. But the same season can also create sudden travel risks. Heavy rain can trigger landslides in India, sudden water flow, damaged roads, delayed trains, and unsafe hill routes. So, every traveler should check the latest monsoon travel alert in India before leaving home. This guide explains the places under monsoon alert, what to check before your journey, and how to stay safe during the rainy season in India.

Why Monsoon Travel Needs More Care

Rain can change a trip plan within hours. A clear road in the morning may close by evening. A calm river can rise fast. A small hill route can turn dangerous after continuous rain. Many popular hill stations, pilgrimage routes, and forest areas face risks during the rainy season. These risks include flash floods in India, falling rocks, weak bridges, slippery roads, and sudden route closures in India. That is why travelers should avoid last-minute road trips during red or orange rainfall alerts. It is better to delay a holiday than get stuck midway.

List of Places to Avoid During Heavy Rain

Here are the Indian destinations to avoid or postpone when heavy rain alerts are active.

Doda and Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir

You can explore rugged landscapes and mountain views here. But these districts can face difficult conditions during heavy rain. Rain in Doda and Kishtwar can affect hill roads, bridges, and village routes. Flash floods and landslides can damage access routes. Rescue and repair work may also take time because of the terrain. Tourists should postpone leisure trips to these regions during unstable weather.

Arunachal Pradesh Mountain Routes

This region has remote valleys, high mountains, and beautiful road trips. But heavy rain can make journeys difficult in many parts of the state. Landslides in Arunachal Pradesh can block roads and cut off access to remote areas. Some routes may take longer to reopen because of tough terrain and limited connectivity.

Gangotri, Uttarakhand

This is an important pilgrimage destination and thousands of devotees visit it during the Char Dham Yatra season. But the road to Gangotri passes through mountain areas that can become unstable during heavy rain. A Gangotri travel advisory should always be checked before starting the journey. Landslides, swollen rivers, and highway blocks can delay or stop the journey.

Tirthan Valley, Himachal Pradesh

This peaceful valley attracts people who love rivers, forests, camping, and slow travel. But the weather can change quickly during the rainy season. Always check Tirthan Valley weather before booking stays or planning treks. Heavy rain can block mountain routes and make rivers unsafe. Campsites near water bodies can also become risky. Avoid trekking, riverside stays, and long drives if the forecast shows heavy rainfall.

Wayanad, Kerala

This is one of Kerala’s most loved hill destinations. It has forests, waterfalls, tea estates, and viewpoints. But some parts of Wayanad are landslide-prone during intense rainfall. The recent Wayanad landslide reports have reminded travelers to stay alert during heavy rain. Not every part of Wayanad may be unsafe, but visitors should avoid vulnerable areas, forest roads, and waterfall zones during intense rainfall. Check local updates before visiting places near Chooralmala, Meppadi, and other sensitive hill pockets.

Chamba, Himachal Pradesh

You can explore beautiful valleys, temples, and mountain roads here. But rain can create serious travel problems in the region. Reports of Chamba landslides often increase during heavy rains. Slopes become weak, and narrow roads may close without much warning. Even short journeys can take many hours if debris blocks the route.

Lonavala and Khandala, Maharashtra

Monsoon travel is popular here because of green hills, lakes, waterfalls, and misty views. Many people plan quick weekend trips from Mumbai and Pune. But heavy rain can make the ghat roads risky. Waterlogging, falling stones, traffic jams, and poor visibility can affect a trip. The Mumbai-Pune route and nearby hill roads may also slow down during intense rainfall.

Travel Safety Tips

Follow these tips before and during your trip.

  • Check the IMD forecast for your destination and route. Do not depend only on general state-level weather updates. Look at district-level alerts.
  • Avoid night driving in hills. Rain, fog, and falling debris can make roads dangerous after dark.
  • Stay away from overflowing rivers, waterfalls, streams, and low bridges. Water levels can rise very fast.
  • Keep buffer time in your itinerary. Rain can delay road trips, trains, buses, and flights.
  • Carry medicines, dry clothes, power banks, snacks, drinking water, and waterproof bags.
  • Book hotels with flexible cancellation. Weather may force you to change your dates.
  • Share your route and stay details with family or friends.
  • Follow local police and disaster management instructions. Do not cross blocked roads or warning barricades.

What to Check Before You Travel

Before you start a monsoon trip, check these things:

  • Rainfall alerts for the destination
  • Road and highway status
  • Train and bus updates
  • Flight status
  • Hotel accessibility
  • Local flood or landslide warnings
  • Return route conditions
  • Emergency contact numbers

The rainy season can give you some of the best vacation memories in India. But it also needs patience and caution. Do not rush into hill trips, pilgrimage routes, or remote road journeys during heavy rain. Check monsoon travel alerts. Speak to your hotel. Confirm transport status. Keep your itinerary flexible. A delayed trip is better than a risky journey. During the rainy season, the best trip plan is the one that keeps you safe.

Traveling with your partner is exciting. It is the beginning of a vacation, a honeymoon, or a long-awaited reunion. But before the flight even takes off, many couples find themselves dealing with crowded terminals, security checks, delayed departures, and last-minute gate changes. These situations can create unnecessary stress.

To make airport time more enjoyable, many travelers are trying Airport Divorce. Despite its name, it has nothing to do with ending a relationship. It is simply a travel approach that gives couples a short period of personal time before they reunite and board their flight together.

What Is Airport Divorce?

Airport Divorce is a simple idea. Couples complete check-in, security screening, and other airport formalities together. After that, they separate for a while and spend time however they like before meeting again at the boarding gate. One person may browse duty-free shops. The other may relax in a lounge, enjoy a coffee, read a book, or charge electronic devices. The goal is to let each traveler enjoy the airport experience without feeling rushed or compromising on every decision.

Why Are Travelers Trying This Approach?

People have different travel habits. Some like shopping before a flight. Others prefer reaching the gate early. Some enjoy exploring the terminal, while others simply want a quiet place to relax. These small differences can sometimes lead to unnecessary disagreements. Spending a little time apart reduces that pressure and allows each person to enjoy the airport in their own way.

Benefits of Airport Divorce

Reduces Travel Stress

Airports can be overwhelming, especially during holiday periods or peak travel seasons. A short break gives both travelers time to relax before boarding.

Creates Personal Space

Traveling together does not mean spending every moment together. This approach respects individual preferences without affecting the relationship.

Helps Avoid Small Arguments

Questions like where to eat, whether to shop, or when to head to the gate no longer become reasons for conflict.

Improves the Start of the Journey

When couples reunite before boarding, they often feel calmer and in a better mood, helping the trip begin on a positive note.

How to Try Airport Divorce

The idea is simple but requires a little planning.

  • Complete airport formalities together.
  • Decide on a meeting point before separating.
  • Agree on a meeting time.
  • Keep your phone accessible.
  • Monitor boarding announcements.
  • Reach the gate well before boarding begins.

These simple steps help make the airport experience less stressful.

Is It Right for Every Couple?

Not necessarily. Some couples enjoy spending every moment together. Others appreciate a little independence while traveling. Neither choice is better than the other. The key is communication. If both partners are comfortable with the idea, this travel habit can make the airport experience smoother and more enjoyable.

Airport Divorce is not about ending relationships or encouraging couples to stay apart. It simply allows each partner to enjoy the airport in their own way. A little personal time before boarding can reduce stress, improve the overall travel experience, and help both travelers start their journey in a better mood.

Can I change employers while my STEM OPT extension application is pending?

Yes. You can change employers while your STEM OPT extension is pending, provided the new employer meets STEM OPT requirements. The employer must participate in E-Verify, and your job should be directly related to your STEM degree. Before starting the new role, submit an updated Form I-983 to your DSO and report the employment change within the required timeline.

Can I continue working while my STEM OPT extension is pending?

Yes. If USCIS received your STEM OPT extension application before your current OPT expired, you may qualify for an automatic extension of work authorization for up to 180 days while your application is under review.

What documents prove my 180-day automatic STEM OPT work authorization?

Employers typically accept the following documents:

  • Expired OPT EAD card
  • Form I-765 receipt notice
  • STEM OPT I-20 showing the extension recommendation
  • USCIS guidance and Form I-9 instructions explaining the automatic extension

Most employers do not require a separate approval letter from USCIS.

Can I travel outside the U.S. while my STEM OPT is valid?

Yes. Students on STEM OPT can travel internationally if they carry all required documents, including a valid passport, F-1 visa, STEM OPT EAD card, signed I-20 with a recent travel endorsement, and proof of current employment. Having only a few months remaining on your EAD does not automatically prevent re-entry.

Does Premium Processing guarantee STEM OPT approval?

No. Premium Processing only speeds up USCIS processing. Your application can still receive a Request for Evidence (RFE), biometrics appointment, or additional review before a final decision is made.

What should I do if I miss my USCIS biometric appointment?

Contact USCIS immediately and request a new appointment. If your application is denied because you missed biometrics, consult an experienced immigration attorney without delay. Depending on your situation, you may be eligible to file a Motion to Reopen or pursue another legal option.

Does an RFE affect my H-1B cap-gap work authorization?

Not necessarily. Receiving an RFE does not automatically end cap-gap benefits. If your H-1B change of status petition remains pending and qualifies under USCIS rules, your cap-gap work authorization may continue. Since every case is different, confirm your eligibility with your DSO and immigration attorney.

Can I apply for a Green Card while working on OPT?

Yes, but most employment-based Green Card categories require an employer willing to sponsor your application. The employer generally begins the process through PERM labor certification before filing immigrant petitions. An immigration attorney can help you understand your options based on your circumstances.

What happens if my OPT application is filed after the 30-day deadline?

USCIS may deny the application because it was not filed within the required timeframe. If you submitted a withdrawal request, your DSO may need confirmation that USCIS has processed it before issuing a new OPT recommendation. Stay in close contact with your DSO to avoid status issues.

What are the most common reasons STEM OPT applications are delayed?

Several factors can delay a STEM OPT application, including:

  • Missing or incomplete Form I-983
  • Incorrect or incomplete Form I-765
  • Biometrics appointments
  • Requests for Evidence (RFEs)
  • Missing signatures
  • High USCIS application volume
  • Additional eligibility verification

Submitting accurate documents and responding quickly to USCIS requests can help reduce delays.
