In a bid to promote Indian tourism, the Tourism Ministry has begun a unique campaign titled “Dekho Apna Desh”. This is a campaign that asks Indians to take a pledge to visit 15 tourist destinations in India by 2022.
The Center has decided to reward the travelers who complete their visit to 15 tourist destinations in India by 2022. Union Minister Prahlad Singh Patel was quoted saying, “Tourism Ministry will fund the travel expenses of tourists who visit 15 destinations in the country in a year and submit the photos to our website.”
However, to be able to qualify for the incentive one must travel to destinations outside their home state. Mr. Patel further added, “This should not be construed as a monetary benefit but as an incentive. We should honor these persons as brand ambassadors of Indian Tourism.”
Patel explained, “We will start a mass movement encouraging every Indian to visit more domestic destinations, this will boost up local as well as national economy.” To take this pledge you will need to sign up to https://pledge.mygov.in/my-country/.
You can take the pledge in Hindi or English and once done you will receive a certificate through email or text. Although, the Union Minister stated the requirement was to visit the 15 destinations in one year, the pledge states, “Today, we resolve to visit at least 15 tourist places of our country by 2022 and to inspire others also to visit.”
This is in relation to Prime Minister Modi’s speech last year during Independence Day celebrations. Modi said, “I know people travel abroad for holidays but can we think of visiting at least 15 tourist destinations in India before 2022, when we mark 75 years of freedom.”
PM Modi also urged the public to travel to places with lack of infrastructure in order to boost tourism. He says in return better facilities will be built as more people will visit.
