After updating the OCI rules with revised fee structure<\/a><\/span> effective 1 April 2026, India launched e-OCI Card, the electronic version of physical OCI Card booklets<\/strong>. Starting 1 May 2026, India digitalized the OCI system and process, from registration to documentation to reissuance, through the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2026. The digital overhaul of the OCI program for Indian-origin foreign citizens, their foreign spouses and children, makes it smarter, safer, and simpler.<\/p>\n

What is e-OCI? Who will get e-OCI Card?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

e-OCI is nothing but the digital version of the OCI Card, eliminating the hassles of carrying and the worries of losing a physical booklet. You can store and access the OCI card digitally anywhere and anytime. New applicants will receive e-OCI on priority, and the existing OCI Card holders will get the electronic version in a phased manner, maybe, during reissuance. The existing physical OCI cards will remain valid even after they get the digital upgrade. Digital OCI removes the physical card from the list of travel documents for entry to India and immigration clearance on arrival.<\/p>\n
